We've officially hit the half-way point of the NFL regular season. We've all struggled a bit so far, especially with the number of crucial injuries we've had this season. This matchup game we're playing becomes even more important as we see these teams and players develop as the season goes on.
Also, BIG moves happened at the trade deadline. Could they factor into who you choose to start this week?
Let's dive in!
QUARTERBACKS
START Bryce Young vs New Orleans Saints
This may sound a bit far-fetched but this could really work with the matchup. Young is not ideal to play at all but I would be willing to try it for the matchup is very much in his favor. The Saints are one of the Top-10 worst against the pass this year and just allowed Matthew Stafford to throw 4 TD's against him. Young is coming off a performance with barely any points in a win vs the Packers. Young is ready to bounce-back in a big way to give you what I think will be a Top-12 performance with the Panthers crushing the rushing game and defensive game.
Honorable Mention: Jacoby Brissett vs SEA, JJ McCarthy vs BAL
SIT Justin Fields vs Cleveland Browns
This matchup has got to be the least appealing matchup of the entire season. Jets vs Browns. If Garrett Wilson is out again and will have to rely on a new set of pass-catchers that LITERALLY JUST JOINED THE JETS in John Metchie and AD Mitchell, you cannot put Fields in your starting lineup. Especially in a minus matchup against the sturdy Browns defense. Don't even try it.
Honorable Mention: Sam Darnold vs ARI, Daniel Jones vs ATL
RUNNING BACKS
START Kyle Monangai vs New York Giants
Wow, the Bears are cooking! Incredible offensive performance and Monangai stood out big-time with 176 yards rushing against the Bengals. He took D'Andre Swift's spot in the starting lineup, and even if Swift returns, Monangai deserves more looks. He should be considered at least a FLEX option should Swift return. The big reason is the Bears draw the Giants who are among the very worst at stopping the run game this season. I would play Monangai with no hesitation in your FLEX spot if you're looking for a spot start.
Honorable Mention: Jordan Mason vs BAL, David Montgomery vs WAS
SIT RJ Harvey vs Las Vegas Raiders
Harvey has had a nice couple of weeks recently where he put up 24.1 and 16.6 PPR points in back-to-back weeks. This is where it stops against the Raiders who hae allowed the least points to opposing RBs this season. Bring up the fact that he still has yet to out-touch JK Dobbins. Don't fall for the trap just yet with a rough rushing matchup ahead. This still isn't Harvey's backfield.
Honorable Mention: Rachaad White vs NE, Jacory Croskey-Merritt vs DET
WIDE RECEIVERS
START Jameson Williams vs Washington Commanders
At the start of the season, I thought Williams was going to be more automatic but he's had some really down weeks this season. I'm here to say that anything goes for the Lions this upcoming week who will be back with a vengeance against the Commanders after a terrible loss to the Vikings. The Lions' offense will need to show out big-time and who better than to take out their frustration than Washington and their sub-par defense. They've surrendered the 5th most points to opposing WR's. Let Waymo fly!
Honorable Mention: All Chargers receivers, Olamide Zaccheaus vs NYG
SIT Brian Thomas Jr vs Houston Texans
This really is just an off year for BTJ and it's a shame. I thought he was really going to be the bonafide #1 option for the Jaguars for years to come. Then they traded for Jakobi Meyers yesterday at the trade deadline and everything changed. Meyers becomes a much more reliable target in that offense who doesn't drop balls. BTJ still might even be covered by Derek Stingley this game which is not even close to ideal. The #1 receiver in this offense against the Texans will continue to get shut down so don't consider Brian Thomas Jr. this week.
Honorable Mention: Jauan Jennings vs LAR, Chris Olave vs CAR
TIGHT ENDS
START Dalton Schultz vs Jacksonville Jaguars
Schultz has quietly been a nice second option in the Texans offense to Nico Collins. What also may bode well for him is Davis Mills will be starting under center this week who may not like to push the ball downfield as much. Therefore, I bet he will look to Schultz a bit more often than we're used to seeing with Stroud. Schultz is quietly the TE17 on the season and has his best games more recently. The Jaguars have given up the 2nd most points to opposing TE's this season, as well. Schultz is a no-brainer this week.
Honorable Mention: Cade Otton vs NE, Kyle Pitts vs IND
SIT Luke Musgrave vs Philadelphia Eagles
Don't fall for it. He's not Tucker Kraft. Many will hope that he will be but we can't guarantee the same output yet. Against a solid Eagles defense that has allowed the 3rd least points to opposing TE's doesn't bode well for a 1-for-1 swap with Kraft. Go with one of the aforementioned options before I consider the Packers new TE1.
Honorable Mention: Pat Freiermuth vs LAC, Tyler Warren vs ATL
