Summary The 2023 Seahawks ended the season at 9-8 and missed the playoffs. The Seahawks parted ways with most of the coaching staff starting at the top with Pete Carroll. Carroll had been with the team for 13 years and led the Seahawks to the only Super Bowl trophy in franchise history. The turnover in the front office will be a thing to keep an eye on this season with a Defensive minded coach in Mike Macdonald added the Seahawks should be more focused on the Defensive side of the ball. The new addition of OC Ryan Grubb shows that Seattle wants to move away from the Pete way of just pounding the ball and want to air it out more.
Passing Preview: The Seahawks still have one of the top receiving corps in the NFL with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxson Smith-Njigba and should see the ball in the air more often than we have come to see. New OC Ryan Grubb is coming from the Washington Huskies who have been in the top 2 of passing yards per game in college football the last 2 years. The Seahawks traded for the QB Sam Howell who will push Geno for the starting job in the preseason. With the Qbs in Seattle I look for Geno to move into full control and handle the QB job for Seattle this season. In 1 Qb leagues Geno could be a good late option to add as a backup or if you punted on the position and are just looking for a QB to stream. Geno finished as QB 5 in 2022 and Qb19 last season with missing 2 games. Sam Howell is a late flier I would look to add at the end of my drafts in Superflex leagues.
Rushing: The Seahawks are still led by a 2 headed monster in both Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet. Walker has a great shot to finish as a top 20 back as he has every year he had been in the league. Walker has shown flashes of ability in the passing game and to make big explosive plays. Charbonnet will be more of a change of pace type of back for Seattle. I expect him to have some games with fantasy relevance but not to be too consistent for fantasy managers. Walker will be a top back to be drafted in most fantasy formats as he is still only 23.
Charbonnet will be one of the top handcuffs to have if Walker should miss time Charbonnet will vault into the RB2 range.
Receiving: The Seahawks have one of the top receivers in the NFL at only 26 years old and 5 years pro Metcalf has been over 900 yards every year since entering the league. Then you move on to one of the most underrated wide receivers in the NFL Tyler Lockett at 31 years old he has seen over 110 targets in the last 5 years since DK entered the league and has finished as a top 20 wide receiver in 6 out of the last 7 years. Then you move on to Jaxson Smith-Njigba at 22 years old JSN was one of the top if not the top wide receiver in last year's draft. JSN should see the field more this season and be ready as soon as the season starts and not miss off-season time with a hurt wrist. JSN will be one of the biggest names when you talk about a breakout wide out this season.
Defensive Preview: The defense in Seattle will be a big question mark this year as the Linebacker turnover is going to be a tough one to get past with the Captain Bobby Wagner moving on again and the Talented Jordyn Brooks moving on the core will look alot different. The Seahawks secondary is young and will be fun to watch grow. As for the pass rush and the front line it is in rebuild anchored by the rookie Byron Murphy.
Fantasy: The Defense for fantasy will be streamed only to start the season. As for the running backs Walker will be one of the top 20 backs to own in fantasy and Charbonnet will be one of the top handcuffs. The Receivers will be DK as a top 15 wide out and Lockett being a great add late in the drafts cause he will be undervalued as he always is. JSN will be a guy that will be drafted in the mid rounds and should return value this season as the Seahawks should have a much Improved passing game. Geno will be a late QB to add if you punt on the QB position as he will have good games and be a great streaming option.
Prediction: I believe the Seahawks will struggle this year with the huge amount of change that is going on in the front office and on the field. I predict a 7 and 10 season with the defense making some big plays and also giving up some big plays. The Seahawks will struggle early in the season and hopefully improve as they get used to all the changes. With 6 games inside the division against the 49ers, Rams, and Arizona they will finish at 3 and 3.
