2024 Outlook:
Overview
When you think of the Baltimore Ravens, the offensive side of the ball is where the spotlight shines. In the 2023 season, they posted a 13-4 record, dominating most opponents with a powerful offense. While they didn't make many offseason moves, the addition of Derrick Henry to their running game stands out. Henry's presence adds a new dimension to an already potent offense.
The spotlight remains on Lamar Jackson. He had an outstanding season last year, showing significant improvement, particularly in his passing game. However, despite his progress, Jackson isn't widely recognized as an elite passer. What sets him apart is his unparalleled ability to make plays with his legs, putting immense pressure on opposing defenses. With Derrick Henry now in the mix, the Ravens' dual rushing attack becomes even more formidable.
Their receiving game is anchored by reliable targets like Mark Andrews and promising talent in Zay Flowers. However, the biggest question mark is the depth and performance of their supporting cast in the receiving corps, including Rashod Bateman, Isaiah Likely, and Devontez Walker. How this group performs will be crucial to the Ravens' success in the upcoming season.
Fantasy Impact
When it comes to fantasy football, the Baltimore Ravens offer some interesting options, but it's important to be selective. For the quarterback position, Lamar Jackson is an obvious must-have. At running back, Derrick Henry is a league winner in all fantasy formats as the Ravens look to feature him in their run first scheme.
In Dynasty formats, Isaiah Likely could be a smart investment. Mark Andrews, while still elite, has shown a slight decline in production year over year, which might eventually open the door for Likely to take over as the primary tight end.
Also, in Dynasty, I’d consider Devontez Walker. As a rookie, he had a decent college career and seems to fit well with the Ravens' scheme. However, I’m fading Rashod Bateman in all formats; his performance hasn't been convincing enough to warrant excitement. Zay Flowers is a mid-tier pick in redraft leagues, but he gains more value in Dynasty due to his youth and potential.
Where the Ravens truly shine, though, is in IDP formats. Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton are prime choices, with other key players like Odafe Oweh, David Ojabo, and Justin Madubuike providing strong defensive options. Nate Wiggins and Marlon Humphrey are also top-tier pickups in IDP formats.
Overall, the Ravens are more defensively advantageous for Dynasty managers. In redraft leagues, I'd be cautious and stick primarily to Jackson, Andrews, and the king Derrick Henry. Outside of these top-tier picks, the risk is higher.
I believe the Ravens will excel in two areas this season: forcing turnovers on defense and running the ball effectively on offense. Their scheme is well-suited for a strong ground game, with quick passes complementing their run-heavy approach. Mark Andrews should continue to benefit in this system, though his long-term future with the team is uncertain, making Likely an intriguing Dynasty stash.
In summary, I'm cautiously optimistic about the Ravens for fantasy, but only if you target the right players in the right formats.
